AS/A level Further Mathematics student tuition

The AMSP can provide tuition for students in state-funded schools and colleges who would benefit from studying AS/A level Further Mathematics, in cases where your school/college is having difficulties staffing or timetabling it. We offer full AS or A level tuition, and can also work with you to share the tuition and help you to establish your own provision in future.

Our tuition support is either provided face-to-face or through our Live Online Tuition (LOT) programme. Your AMSP Area Coordinator can advise you on the best option for your circumstances.

There’s also a series of videos to support your own teaching of AS/A level Further Mathematics.

Face-to-face tuition

Where there are sufficient students in one school, the AMSP may be able to provide an expert local tutor to deliver a structured learning programme, including revision sessions. Students have access to extensive, purpose-written online resources.

The tutor liaises with a contact in the school's/college's maths department. The tutor visits students in their school/college, or in some cases students attend lessons at a local university, or at a local school or college.

The fee for face-to-face tuition depends on the group size and tutor availability, and it’s best to discuss this with your AMSP Area Coordinator.

Live Online Tuition (LOT)

The AMSP provides real-time online tutorials to support students. Students log in to the online classroom and communicate with the tutor via live text chat, audio link and a shared electronic whiteboard. The tutor and students can also work together on shared maths-relevant software such as spreadsheets and GeoGebra.

The sessions are designed to build on a series of videos that we provide. These were produced by the legacy Further Mathematics Support Programme (FMSP). In addition to the online sessions, students are set exercises to work on between sessions, and receive follow up support from their tutor. Students also have access to extensive, purpose-written online resources on the Integral® website.

Group sizes are small, usually between one and seven students per tutor. Tutors are all experienced teachers of Further Mathematics and are available via email to respond to queries between sessions.

A recording is made of each session so that students can return to and review the material covered at a later date.

We will be offering the following routes through A level and AS Further Mathematics in 2018-19:

The courses will start in early September, but should there be demand we will consider offering an AS course starting in Spring 2019 for Year 12 students to study over a period of 14-15 months.

The fee for LOT tuition is £365 per student and includes 35 hours of online tuition over a period of 27-30 weeks.

FM Videos

The legacy FMSP produced a large series of short videos to support the content of AS/A level Further Mathematics. These are designed to introduce students to the concepts so that they can learn the material for the section by working through appropriate examples.

The videos are freely available to registered schools and colleges through your Integral® account. All students at FMSP or AMSP registered schools/colleges can also access the videos directly via a 'student account' that can be shared with students. The student account features the videos but no other resources.

To promote the usage of these videos to your students, a A4 poster is available for you to display, to which you can add the student account login details.
