'Why study maths?' presentation resources

For 2020, we have increased our 'Why Study Maths?' range of resources that you can use to promote the level 3 maths qualifications that your school offers to students and parents. Below is a brief description of what is available.

Updated for 2020 is an approximately 30 minute presentation for students and parents/carers about the importance of studying maths post-GCSE. It outlines the options available, and provides compelling reasons for choosing to take an advanced maths qualification. The presentation is very comprehensive, and also comes with supporting teacher notes and can be edited to suit your needs.

Based on the contents of the 'Why Study Maths?' presentation, we have created three videos that can be used as part of virtual open evenings, or linked to from your school website. The videos are as follows:

Why Study Maths? What are the post-16 options?

This video looks at general reasons for students to continue to study maths, and looks at A level Mathematics and A level Further Mathematics as well as A level Statistics and the Core Maths qualifications.

For students, we have created six online taster lessons – two each for Core Maths, A level Mathematics, and A level Further Mathematics. The lessons give students a flavour of what it is like to study each of these qualifications. Each lesson consists of an introductory video followed by an interactive activity for the student to work through at their own pace. You can find the taster lessons on the AMSP website.
