Our next Aspiring Heads of Maths (HOM) course is running this summer term.

The best heads of departments inspire through passionate teaching. They also genuinely care about developing the team they lead and are able to maintain a wider perspective on students’ educational experiences as a whole.

HOM is perfect for those in their first few years of being a head of maths and would like to develop their skills. We also encourage teachers with some responsibility and aspire to pursue a head of department role in the future.

HOM will take place over a period of six months and feature three study days in London. You will also have access to a dedicated course tutor. The course is open to all teachers of state-funded schools and colleges in England. We can also support you with a subsidy if you are from a TSMA area; click here for more information.

Study day one

Tues 26 March

Study day two

Weds 15 May

Study day three

Tues 26 March

The course will explore a range of strategies to create a rich mathematical learning environment for your students and staff. You will get the chance to consider ways of developing the potential within your team and explore some of the more ambitious aspects of the role. We will also explore how to manage the transition from GCSE to post-sixteen maths.

Feedback from previous participants

Shortly after completing the course, I was successful in a competitive interview for a Head of Maths post. I honestly believe that this course gave me the confidence to help me achieve my goal.

The course has made me aware of some of the challenges a HOD will face and has given me strategies in how to deal with these.
