Our annual four-day New To Teaching A level Mathematics Summer School in partnership with STEM Learning is back for 2024.
Are you or do you have teachers who will be teaching A level Mathematics in the new academic year who are comfortable with the subject content but have little to no experience teaching it?
Are you or do you have teachers with one to two years’ experience of teaching A level Mathematics who are happy with the content but want to develop their teaching strategies?
Our New to Teaching A level Mathematics Summer School is aimed at deepening a teacher’s pedagogical content knowledge in key areas of the A level curriculum. It will also introduce teachers to a range of strategies for teaching A level Mathematics while developing their understanding of how key concepts that underpin A level maths are linked together across the subject.
This residential course includes all accommodation and meals in partnership with the National STEM Learning Centre.
Immerse yourself in learning while surrounded by like-minded teachers over the four days.
You will experience a range of teaching techniques delivered through 11 sessions covering:
- Teacher-centred use of technology
- Student-centred use of technology
- Questioning
- Using multiple representations
- Modelling in statistics
- Using real data in statistics
- Practical approaches in mechanics
- Modelling in mechanics
With the opportunity to put what you have learnt together and plan and deliver a team-taught twenty-minute lesson.
The course will last for 4 days, from Monday 19 to Thursday 22 August.
All sessions were incredibly valuable and extremely well organised. I now feel much more confident in teaching A level, but I will also take away strategies that will have a huge impact on my teaching throughout the school.
The subsidised course fee is £200 for teachers employed in a state-funded school or college in England. The full course fee for all other teachers is £600.
