  • To provide students with an introduction to problem solving
  • To give students the opportunity to attempt problems on their own
  • To give students the opportunity to think about how solutions to problems are presented
  • To provide information about the problem solving skills required in University Admissions Tests

Who will benefit from attending?

The classes are suitable for any A level Mathematics student with an enquiring mind who wishes to begin to develop their problem solving ability at A level and beyond. They are particularly suitable for those Year 12 students and those who are interested in finding out about admissions test as part of a university offer.

Teachers are welcome to attend, and specific teacher professional development information is provided at the end of the session.

Materials and equipment

These classes are being held online. You will need access to a computer with internet connection. You will not need to use a webcam or a microphone to engage with these classes, but you should have some paper, a pencil, and a quiet area to work in.

Eligibility

Only teachers should submit an application; any applications made by students will be rejected due to the nature of the access to the course. If you are a student interested in attending, please ask a teacher to apply on behalf of students from your school and you will receive all the information about how to attend from them.

This course is open to applications from schools and colleges in England Registered with the AMSP for the current academic year. We only require one teacher application from each school/college on behalf of all students and teachers that plan to attend and by signing up once, you will be provided access for all evening sessions that week; we hope this will make it easier for students to attend around their other commitments.

If you are not sure if your school or college is Registered with the AMSP, please continue to submit an application for this course and we will automatically check this for you. If you know your school or college does not hold an AMSP registration for the current year, please follow this link to register: https://amsp.org.uk/register

Participant feedback

The questions were explained step by step which made it easy to understand. Also, there were very useful tips on how to approach problem-solving questions.

I would definitely recommend this event to anyone who is thinking about doing a maths degree but also a level students who struggle with problem solving questions whether they wish to continue with maths or not.
I thought it was very helpful, I liked the various sources of support they gave and more generalised tips for problem solving as opposed to exclusively going through specific questions.
You've helped encourage me to look at universities that do have additional examinations as entry requirements.
I'm going to recommend my friends to attend one of the talks as they're very useful.
