I’m a great fan of logic and number puzzles and found the puzzles in this book to be frustrating and yet satisfying.

If you’re a fan of Sudoku and/or other Japanese logic puzzles, you’ll enjoy these too. There are some great puzzles to include in your lesson when you’re teaching area and perimeter but the problems teach logic too which is necessary further up the school, so don’t think that they’re not useful for your A level students as well.

These puzzles ask you to find missing values in a network of rectangles. The answers will always be whole numbers – no decimals or fractions. The logic part is how to solve the puzzle using spatial reasoning to find useful relationships and not use just area/perimeter calculations. Alex Bellos wrote an article for the Guardian in 2015 where you can find out more. Enjoy!
