If you are teaching A level Mathematics for the first time, or are an experienced teacher of the subject who wishes to deepen their knowledge and gain new ideas for teaching, you are invited to apply for Teaching A level Mathematics (TAM).
TAM is one of our sustained professional development courses that supports teachers with the development of teaching skills and subject knowledge. The course aims for all participants to leave with renewed confidence in the concepts of AS/A level Mathematics, and the ability to deliver engaging maths lessons that are relevant to students.
The 2020-21 series will run from November 2020 to June 2021 and will consist of six face-to-face study days, spread over eight months. Our TAM course days are held in venues in central locations which are easily accessible by public transport. For this series of TAM, we are running ten courses across England, at venues in:
- Birmingham (two cohorts)
- London (four cohorts)
- and York.
You will also receive a formative lesson observation conducted by a subject specialist, textbooks covering A level Mathematics content to support your studies, and two years’ access to Integral, MEI’s online teaching and learning resources, which will include additional extensive course materials.
If you are interested in applying, you must be teaching in a state-funded school or college in England, and you must also be teaching a minimum of two hours or lessons per week of AS, A level or IB Mathematics for the whole academic year. This should include pure maths content, rather than only statistics and/or mechanics content.
The cost of TAM is £600. You can read more information and apply on our website.
If you are working in a state-funded school or college, participation in this course attracts a total reimbursement of £1,000. If you are working in a state-funded school or college that is located within a Priority Area, participation will attract a total reimbursement of £1,200. These reimbursements of course fees are subject to engagement and completion of the course. Please view our subsidies page for more information.
