Teacher Network meetings have taken place across the South West region this term and, for many of us, the first meeting of this term focused on opening doors for students with discussions based around opportunities for engaging Year 10 and 11 students in maths post-16 and helping them to make informed choices for their next step. If you’ve not come across it yet, our Opening the door to your future leaflet, which many of the teachers attending use for their open evenings, is freely available. More details and other literature can be found on our website.

At the meeting, teachers shared examples of what they do and local Area Coordinators shared some of the resources available on the AMSP website. These include taster sessions, complete with editable Desmos classroom lessons, Why study maths? presentations, and opportunities to hear from employees who use maths in their roles. Some are editable and are ideal for open evenings as well as in the classroom, and can be found on the AMSP website.

The aim of our Teacher Network meetings is to give you the opportunity to discuss topics and share ideas that you can use or develop for your own circumstances. Further meetings are planned for the spring and summer terms next year. If there are topics that you’d like to focus on, please contact your local Area Coordinator. We look forward to seeing you later in the year.
