Joanna Deko, Regional Lead for the East of England

Our suite of Raising Confidence with GCSE Maths PD courses have already began to roll out across the East of England, with more days on problem solving and higher mathematics still to come.

Raising Confidence with Reasoning  – Day 1 of the suite – took place in Passmores Academy, Harlow and Comberton Village College, Cambridge. Both events provided support in developing professional practice in the area of reasoning and strategies for disseminating it across departments. Teachers shared ideas and approaches for developing reasoning.

Raising Confidence with Problem Solving – Day 2 of the suite – will take place in early December and will focus on the development of problem solving through secondary mathematics. Teachers will consider different models for embedding a problem-solving culture in the classroom and provide practical strategies that help students to become more resilient problem solvers.

Raising Confidence with Higher Mathematics – Day 3 of the suite – will take place in early February and will focus on topics in the GCSE which are developed into AS/A level Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Core Maths. It will provide strategies and ideas for teachers to use in their classrooms to deepen their students’ understanding, encourage them to study mathematics beyond GCSE and support them in this.

This suite of courses is funded by the DfE and offered free of charge to teachers working in state-funded schools, colleges and academies. Additional subsidies are available.
