We are looking forward to getting 2020 off to an exciting start with the launch of our STEP/MAT/TMUA preparation course for students, which takes place weekly from 22 January at Newcastle University. This is an excellent opportunity for students to challenge their mathematical problem-solving skills and to work alongside students with similar abilities and ambitions. This follows on from the very successful course that we ran from September to November, and we are hoping to see many of the same faces and more in January. The course is completely free and is open to all students, whether or not they are expecting to sit a STEP paper or similar, and we welcome both Year 12 and Year 13 students.

Teachers interested in extending their own experience of these papers are also welcome to attend. On a similar note, we are hoping to run at least one Staff and Student Conference for STEP/MAT/TMUA preparations this term. Previous events like this both in the North East and around the country have been very popular and well-received. The conference will give students a flavour of higher-level problem solving while helping to enable teachers to support students within their own schools. It will also provide helpful and up-to-date information on university applications that will be useful to both staff and their students.

We are looking forward to continuing to work with schools, teachers and students on this, as well as all the other activities the AMSP is involved with throughout 2020!
