The AMSP Gateshead KS3/4 Network Meeting was hosted at Lord Lawson of Beamish Academy. Attending staff were given summary information and regional data regarding the recent, successful, Raising Girls Participation Event which drew expertise from both local and national school practitioners. In another section of the meeting, they also got to grips with some interesting problems based around scaling and similarity. Here’s one to have a look at:
2 spheres have a combined volume of 10cm3. The larger has a surface area 4 times that of the smaller. What is the radius of each sphere?
Staff were encouraged to use particular techniques which made tackling such problems as these simpler than they may have initially thought.
