We are delighted to welcome Abigail Parkes (Abi), who has joined the West Midlands team as the new AMSP Area Coordinator for Wolverhampton, covering Walsall, Wolverhampton and Sandwell (supported by Tom Carpenter and Christine Watson). Abi will be contacting schools over the term to assess the PD need in the area and the needs of students to raise aspirations to study maths beyond GCSE.

Abigail may already be well-known to many of our colleagues, having hosted maths sessions for students in the city.

“Hi, I’m Abigail.

I graduated from the University of Wolverhampton with a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics. I am currently completing a PhD part time in mathematics education focusing on the development of supports for students at the transition to university.

When not at work, I tend to be playing or listening to music, or running. Training runs can be combined very well with listening to podcasts and I use the time to learn Spanish (I find myself greeting other runners with ‘hola’ as we pass!).

I’m excited to be working with the AMSP and I look forward to meeting you.”

If you would like support with any aspect of your maths provision or if you have any questions about the AMSP and their work, please don’t hesitate to contact Abigail.
