Martyn Quigley, AC for North Birmingham and Dudley

In September, the University of Birmingham and the AMSP began another year of Maths Club, the programme’s fourth consecutive year helping Year 12 and 13 students in the West Midlands. The club is intended for students who enjoy problem solving, and this year we have catered for a range of difficulties with three streams:

  • Stream A – Aimed at Year 12 students, the first few sessions require no more than knowledge of GCSE maths. Later sessions draw upon problems from university admissions test TMUA (Test of Mathematics for University Admission) and MAT (Maths Admission Test) .
  • Stream B – A six-week programme centered on students taking the MAT in the autumn term.
  • Stream C – Aimed at Year 13 students, sessions draw most problems from the STEP (Sixth Term Examination Paper).

Streams A and C run during the autumn and spring terms and offer 24 weeks of engaging problem-solving sessions. Each session is independent of all of the others so it is not too late for students to join this year. Please contact Martyn Quigley ([email protected]) for more information.
