Before the Christmas break, a fantastic enrichment day took place at Xaverian College, Manchester. Smashing Sums ft. Magical Maths began with a “Mini Maths Feast”, where students competed in teams to tackle a variety of challenging problems against the clock with great success. Next on the menu were a pair of workshops, where students applied their probability knowledge to identify risk.
After lunch, the students were wowed by guest speaker Ben Sparks, who performed some excellent magic tricks and then welcomed them into the “magic circle” to learn the mathematics behind them. This was a thoroughly enjoyable and thought-provoking day – what a great way to end 2018!
