Integrating technology such as Desmos or GeoGebra into maths lessons can be a daunting task for some teachers. How do teachers find useful resources? What’s the best way to go about creating resources? How should these resources be built into SoWs for A level Maths?

In December in Leicester, a group of ten teachers attended the first meeting of a newly instituted Work Group set up in collaboration with the East Midlands South Maths Hub. The half-day meeting was led by Tom Button, the Technology PD Lead for the Advanced Mathematics Support Programme. Teachers were given the opportunity to create GeoGebra resources based on elements of the A level maths syllabus. There was an extremely useful discussion about how best to use technology to enhance teaching and learning, and Tom showed teachers tantalising glimpses of what can be achieved. He also persuaded them that getting started on creating resources is easier than many had initially imagined.

The Work Group is planning to meet again later in the year to discuss the implications of this meeting. Feedback from the event was very positive, with teachers agreeing that the most useful aspect was gaining experience in creating GeoGebra resources.
