A level Problem Solving Conference

Overview

This one day problem-solving conference is designed to support enthusiastic year 12 mathematicians to improve their problem solving skills.

The day will include a series of workshops designed to challenge the students, and to include a variety of different activities and including a circus of problem solving tasks.  Students will learn strategies to support their A level work as well as considering wider applications of thinking mathematically.

There is also a series of workshops alongside, for teachers to consider how the learning from the day fits with their own practice.

Aims

• Help Year 12 students develop and enhance their problem-solving skills.
• Introduce students to problems used in some of the university entrance tests.

Who will benefit from attending?

This day would suit any year 12 student studying AS/A Level Maths wishing to develop their problem solving skills. It would be especially useful to students planning to study a STEM based degree at university. 

To maximise the number of students who can benefit, it is not expected that all students will be accompanied by teachers.  Our staff all hold an enhanced DBS, and a full risk assessment will be made available to teachers.  However teachers are welcome to attend and take part in the bespoke strand of the day.

Bring something to write on, and to write with!

Eligibility

This event is free for year 12 students and teachers, and priority will be given to schools/colleges from the Worcestershire/Herefordshire area.

Although students must be studying AS or A Level Maths, they do not need to be studying Further Maths.
