Climate modelling with Tamsin Edwards

Overview

Our Winter Core Maths Festival is comprised of six talks by seven inspirational speakers. We hope that these will enthuse, challenge and enlighten you and offer a springboard to the creation of fantastic contextualised maths lessons.

Who will benefit from attending?

These sessions are designed to appeal to all maths teachers, regardless of how much experience of Core Maths you have had, if any.

We strongly believe that greater collaboration across departments can be hugely beneficial for students and encourage you to invite your science and social science colleagues to this talk.

Presenter

Dr Tamsin Edwards
Climate Scientist and award winning communicator

Content

We are thrilled that Dr Tamsin Edwards is the second speaker in our Saturday double-bill. Tamsin is an award-winning communicator and regularly advises the UK Government on sea-level rise, climate science and science communication.

In a recent survey, 68% of students expressed that they want to learn more about climate change and the environment. In this talk, you will hear how Tamsin uses climate data and simple climate models in her own teaching and this will provide you with inspiration to adapt them for your own lessons.

Level 3 Core Maths focuses on using and applying mathematics to solve and explore authentic problems and so is an ideal setting in which to work with climate data but why not bring a colleague from one of the many other subjects that cover this topic as well?

We hope you will leave enlightened and with increased confidence to bring climate change conversations to the classroom.

During the session, there will be opportunities to ask questions via the chat function on the platform but microphones and webcams are not necessary.
