A-level Pure Mathematics: an introduction for new teachers (three sessions)On-line
This on-line PD event is aimed at teachers who are new to offering the pure element of the A level Mathematics course and those who are seeking to refresh their approach in this context.
The event will be split into three one hour sessions, from 3.30 - 4.30pm.
The sessions will be on:
- Wednesday 6 October 2021,
- Tuesday 12 October 2021,
- Thursday 21 October 2021.
The sessions will focus on Induction and Supporting Transition, and Problem Solving and Proof.
We will not be focussing on knowledge and content or specific A-level topics, but will look at trigonometry, calculus, algebra and coordinate geometry within the context of each session.
If teachers are unable to attend all sessions, it would be possible to arrange for a colleague to attend another session.
- To help teachers prepare to support their new students through the transition to A-level students.
- To help teachers to develop their students into better problem solvers.
- To help teachers to develop ideas for presenting proof at A-level.

Materials and Equipment
You will need access to a good internet connection, using Chrome or Firefox as a browser. A headset with a microphone is best to engage with the live sessions.
The sessions will take place on Zoom and a link to the event will be sent close to the day itself.
We will be using Desmos Classroom to present activities to the delegates.
