Core Maths Winter Festival with Angela Saini
Overview
Our Winter Core Maths Festival is comprised of six talks by seven inspirational speakers. We hope that these will enthuse, challenge and enlighten you and offer a springboard to the creation of, even more, fantastic contextualised Maths lessons.
Who will benefit from attending?
These sessions are designed to appeal to all maths teachers, regardless of how much experience of Core Maths you have had, if any.
We strongly believe that greater collaboration across departments can be hugely beneficial for students and encourage you to invite your science and social science colleagues to this talk.
Content
Speaker: Angela Saini
We are honoured that Angela Saini, award-winning science journalist, author and broadcaster is taking part in our Winter Core Maths Festival. This year she was named one of the world’s top 50 thinkers by Prospect Magazine and her books, Superior, Inferior and Geek Nation have received widespread critical acclaim.
“It has taken a pandemic to put the issue of minority-ethnic health at the top of the agenda.” What does the data say about racial disparity and health and how has this been reported? Angela will explore this question and other aspects of her research. In addition, she will take us on a tour of the darker side of the origins of the statistical techniques we teach our students today.
We hope you will leave enlightened and with increased confidence to tackle challenging contexts in the classroom.
