Maths, is it for me? What can I do with it?

Overview

This event will give opportunity and inspiration to Year 10, in how to incorporate mathematics into their level 3 programme. Year 12's will have an important university experience in order to see the variety of mathematical options available at university.    Both age groups will also have the opportunity to work in teams to  access problem solving materials, on the day.

Teachers will have the chance to look at problem solving material too, plus the opportunity for some CPD in setting problems, helping students with problem solving and some valuable resource information will be available.

Aims

  • To inspire both age groups to include mathematics in their next academic step.

Who will benefit from attending?

Year 10 students who are currently unsure of their route through to Level 3.

Year 12 students who are unsure of whether to go to university, or what is availablo study at university.

Teachers looking for inspiration with problem solving tasks and career guidance.

Content

1100-1130 Arrival and registration

1130-1230 Problem solving for year 10 and 12. CPD for teachers. 

1230-1330- Buffet Lunch with academics.

1330-1415  Expert panel Q and A

1415-1515 Careers level 3 and post 18
