Barking & Dagenham Teacher Network

Barking & Dagemham teacher Network

A network for teachers who work/live in or near Barking & Dagenham; all are welcome to attend. We will aim to meet once a term, and will move around the borough.

Arrival & Networking

You'll have spotted that the event is a 4pm arrival to start at 4:30pm.  This is to allow time for everyone to get to the network, but also to give you chance to grab a drink and something to eat whilst networking with teachers from other schools.

Sharing Best Practice
In this meeting we will start by sharing resources that we have found useful.  Please bring around 10 printed copies and be prepared to talk about the resources for roughly 2 minutes (Why do you like it?  Did it help with a particular misconception? What did your students think?).  This resource could be from any area of Secondary Mathematics (KS3, KS4 or Post 16).  Please also email me an electronic copy of the resource in advance of the network so that this can be shared with everyone.  Bring one great resources and leave with many!

This is similar to a session that we have run at the big London wide conference for a number of years now which always gets brilliant feedback.  If you've not been part of a resource sharing session before and have questions email James, but you shouldn't spend long choosing a resource and of course sharing a web resource etc is absolutly fine!

Raising Girls' Participation:
We know that overall girls tend to be under-represented in Level 3 maths (Core Maths, A Level Maths and Further Maths) overall.  This session will aim to give you some ideas to help you encourage girls to consider taking maths beyond GCSE.  Although the ideas are specifically pitched at Girls, the ideas would be appropriate for all genders.

Do I need to sign up/how do I sign up?
Please complete the booking form on the right as this helps James bring enojugh refreshments (yay cake)!  Please ask each of your colleagues coming to complete this form.

Getting to the school
There is some parking avaialble at the school and the local tube station (Dagenham East on the district line) is a 15 minute walk from the school.

The network meeting is planned for 4:30 - 6:30 with arrival, refershements and networking from 4pm.

Future Network Meetings

The summer Barking & Dagenham network is planned for Wednesday 1st July at Barking Abbey School; more details will appear soon.

As you know the Barking & Dagemham teacher network is a 'moving network' so that it's not always diffocult for the same school to attend.  If you would be interested in hosting a future network (making it easier for your entire department to attend), please let James know.
