Key Stage 5 Coordinator DevelopmentOnline
The AMSP's Live Online Professional Development (LOPD) courses form a programme of innovative online courses, designed to enable teachers to develop their teaching with confidence in a convenient, stress-free way.
LOPD courses are delivered using a browser-based online classroom that allows participants to collaborate online in real time. The courses aim both to cover subject content common to all current specifications and to facilitate the exchange of teaching ideas. Rather than attending a one or two day course away from school or college, participants will use the internet to meet weekly online.
This course comprises four online sessions with an experienced tutor, each between 60 and 90 minutes in length and delivered to a small group of teachers allowing opportunities for interaction and discussion.
- To bring together a group of teachers who are aspiring or current KS5 Coordinators in order to share and discuss relevant ideas, resources and concepts.
- To look at how this role is developing in the current climate of change.
Who will benefit from attending?
New or aspiring KS5 Coordinators; those with responsibility for coordinating post-16 maths courses.
- Active teaching methods in the KS5 classroom
- Managing the transfer from KS4 to KS5
- Curriculum and resourcing, including curriculum intent requirements
- Working with colleagues
Please note that although activities supporting active teaching methods will be included throughout the course and there will be discussion of the content of courses such as Core Maths and supporting students with university admissions tests, this is not designed to develop teachers' delivery of specific subject content. Materials and Equipment
You will need access to a good internet connection, using Chrome or Firefox as a browser. You will need a headset with a microphone to engage with the live sessions and most courses also require a means of sharing handwritten maths, such as a mini-whiteboard and webcam, a visualiser or a graphics tablet. All teachers are eligible for this course, however free places are available only to teachers in state-funded schools, colleges and academies in England. Applications for free places will be checked to verify eligibility.
Teachers must ensure that they are able to attend the live sessions before applying for a place as our courses are subject to very high demand: please do not apply for a place if you will not be able to attend at least a majority of sessions. Further instances of our courses will be added to meet demand; if you are not able to attend a majority of the sessions in this course, you might like to consider completing our register of interest form (this is NOT an application form) and letting us know when would be better for you.
This course is free of charge to teachers working in state-funded schools, colleges and academies in England, otherwise the fee is £95.
|05 February||Active teaching methods in the KS5 classroom:
Ideas for active lesson methods for the post-16 classroom including problem solving questions, prompting discussion, team work, continuous feedback techniques, fostering the A level attitude to work. This strand will also run through the rest of the sessions.
|26 February||Managing the transfer from KS4 to KS5:
Promoting Level 3 mathematics, KS4 enrichment sources, courses to support transfer, pre-course/summer work, setting the scene with new groups, working with systems (students/parents/internal school systems), setting, induction, initial and ongoing assessment.
|18 March||Curriculum and resourcing:
Curriculum intent and the Ofsted framework, level 3 courses: Core Maths, AS/A Level Maths and Further Maths; resourcing Further Maths, online resources, past papers, sharing resources with colleagues; enrichment sources, embedding enrichment in internal structures, available enrichment externally, enrichment courses; university admissions, tailoring the course to your students’ needs.
|25 March||Working with colleagues:
Assessing the capability of your department, increasing awareness of A level needs for all KS4 teachers, sharing active methods, developing colleagues to teach A level Maths and Further Maths.
