Core Maths - a training afternoon for teachers

Overview

A half-day event, led by Catherine van Saarloos of AMSP, aimed at those teaching, or thinking of teaching, Level 3 Core Maths, as well as teachers of subjects for which Core Maths will hopefully be useful, including biology, geography, psychology and PE.

Aims

  • Boost subject knowledge of those planning to teach, or already teaching, Core Maths
  • Showcase the value of Core Maths to teachers of other subjects

Content

The draft timetable:

12.00-12.30 - Arrival and sandwich lunch
12.30-13.30 - Starter problem, what is Core Maths, who is it for and how can it benefit other courses? – including sharing experiences
13.30-13.45 - Break
13.45-14.45 - Core Maths session on either Spearman's rank or central tendency & spread (to be decided based on participants' preferences)
14.45-15.30 - Resources, support and next steps
