Yr 10 Enrichment : Game, Set , Magic!
A day of entertainment and engagement, designed to challenge students conceptions about what mathematics is.
The students will see maths applied to quirky corners of life, play with maths in some game-orientated workshops and get a chance to pit their wits against each other in a problem-solving quiz.
The workshops will be led by heroic figures from the world of maths enrichment:
Adam Townsend will reveal the maths behind chocolate fountains
Sinead Vaughan will be inviting students to apply maths to games of trust. Who do you trust and how much is it worth?
Matt Scroggs will be inviting students to apply maths to braiding. What can you braid? What can you knot?
Nikoleta Kalaydzhieva will be inviting students to investigate the game of SET. Can you spot a pattern? Can you do it fast?
Ben Sparks will be inviting students to explore the mathematics of magic. Say no more.
- To give students experience of maths applied to non-standard areas of life
- To give students a chance to enjoy the maths they do.
- To encourage students to study Maths beyond GCSE
