Taking Maths Further
This enrichment event for year 10 students provides an opportunity to see that maths can be fun, surprising and useful. The emphasis of the day will be that maths can be enjoyable as well as challenging, and that studying maths post 16 can open the door to a diverse range of university courses and job opportunities.
Following an introductory talk, students will attend 3 out of 5 talks:
- Welcome to the Mathegraphical Domain
- Taxicab Geometry
- Mobius Strips
- Fun Maths Roadshow
There will be an opportunity to take part in a lunchtime quiz (with prizes), and all students will attend an entertaining plenary talk with guest speaker Colin Wright, who will talk about Patterns and Predictions: the Maths of Juggling.
- To extend students experiences beyond GCSE
- To inspire students to continue studying mathematics at a higher level.
Who will benefit from attending?
The content of the day should appeal to students of middle ability and above who might benefit from studying post 16 Maths.
Materials and Equipment
Students will need to bring something to write with, and a packed lunch.
