Mirror Pillar Norwich
An exciting opportunity to see the Mirror Pillar exhibit before it's eventual destiny as an exhibit of the MathsWorld UK permanent collection. In addition, there will be a range of interactive workshops for students to take part in, inspiring them and enthusing them about further study of maths.
- Enable students to see connections between maths and other areas of life, including art
- Provide information about mathematical pathways post-16
- Encourage students to consider studying maths beyond GCSE
Who will benefit from attending?
The event is aimed at Key Stage 4 mathematicians who may go on to study maths, further maths or core maths post-16, especially those that may need a little encouragement to do so.
The highlight of the day will be the opportunity to see and engage with the Mirror Pillar, a 2m tall stainless steel pillar 75 cm in diameter. The Mirror Pillar is destined to become part of the MathsWorldUK collection and will be arriving in Norwich as its final stop in a nationwide tour. Award-winning maths communicator, Katie Steckles, will use the pillar to demonstrate mathematical principles of reflection and the ideas behind anamorphic art. Students will also experience a further talk by Katie on the subject of paper-folding as well as additional mathematical enrichment sessions.
