Y9 Maths Picnic - WorcesterWorcester
Maths Picnic is a fun educational challenge for Year 9 students which tests problem-solving and teamwork skills. Teams of three students will test their maths skills with our all-you-can-eat picnic of problems!
The Picnic is similar in format to the Y10 Maths Feast, but is a stand-alone event, not part of a national event.
- Improve problem-solving skills using recreational maths
- Improve teamwork and communication skills
Who will benefit from attending?
Maths Picnic is open to all Year 9 students who want to improve their mathematical and teamwork skills.
There are several rounds requiring different skills and strategies for success. Each event takes about two hours, and awards will be given for good teamwork and for the winning team of each round.
Practice resources and materials from previous Maths Feasts are available here.
There are no heats or finals, so participants can take materials back to their schools and use them to enrich learning in the classroom.
This is for Year 9 students only, organised into teams of three. Each pair of teams must be accompanied by a teacher or teaching assistant. Schools entering multiple teams must bring a ratio of one responsible adult per two teams, however for additional teams this could be a sixth former - clear marking guidance is provided. There is capacity for schools to bring up to 4 teams of 3.
Calculators and equipment such as rulers and protractors are not permitted - this competition is based on your brain power alone!
Refreshments will not be provided for pupils but they may bring water.
The event is in a ground floor accessible room, but if there are particular access needs please do contact Christine.
The nearest car park is about 5 minutes away, but pupils can be dropped off at the building if necessary if there is a teacher available to stay with them for safeguarding.
