Overview

This event is for teachers who wish to understand more about the tests used by universities for admission on to courses for mathematics and related subjects.

This event will cover the different UATs and which universities and courses use them in their admissions process. We will explore some of the types of questions asked, and how problem solving techniques can be incorporated into our teaching for the benefit of all A-Level students.

Aims

  • Understand what are the different University Admissions Tests and which university courses use them in their admissions process
  • Explore strategies to develop problem solving skills with all A-Level Mathematics students
  • Have the opportunity to try some UAT questions
  • Identify sources of future support and professional development opportunities

Who will benefit from attending?

This course is for any teachers of A-Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics who wish to know more about university admissions tests for mathematics (and related subjects) and how they can best support students in preparing for these. 

Content

This session will provide an overview of the different university admissions tests and which universities and courses use them in assessing students' applications.

Increased aptitude in problem-solving can also help raise students’ aspirations and confidence to apply for the competitive university courses which require an admissions test. We will look at some resources and strategies which can be used with ALL A-Level students to develop problem-solving skills. 

Finally we will provide teachers with signposts to sources of support and further professional development opportunities from the AMSP. 

Eligibility

This course is for teachers from state-funded schools, colleges and academies in England. Teachers from independent schools and elsewhere may apply, but places will be subject to availability.
