Maths on the Back of an Envelope with Rob Eastaway

Set aside your calculators and explore the skills of back-of-envelope thinking with Rob Eastaway. Together we will tackle Fermi estimation problems and share tips on how to do rough calculations and supporting students with this essential life skill.

Rob has written several bestselling books connecting maths with everyday life, including “Maths on the Back of an Envelope”. He appears regularly on radio, including on BBC Radio 4 More or Less in which the numbers and statistics used in political debate, the news and everyday life are explained and sometimes debunked. Rob is Director of Maths Inspiration; a national programme of interactive lecture shows in theatres that has reached over 100,000 teenagers in the last ten years.

What the (exam) papers say

Although the benefits of Core Maths are much further reaching than a grade in an exam, preparing students for an assessment is an essential part of the course. In this session you will gain valuable insight into which topics have appeared and how students have fared in exams from 2016-2020. We will also begin to analyse the exams from Summer 2022.

Core Maths teachers top-tips

A brilliant opportunity to get insight from real-life, bona-fide Core Maths teachers on how they keep their students engaged and their cohort strong.

Critical Analysis with Mark Dawes

In a world of fake news, it is important to be able to think critically about what we are told in the media. We want to empower our students to make informed decisions and are all in agreement that this is vital part of the Level 3 Core Maths course. B
