Aims

  • To provide students with an opportunity to begin to increase their depth of mathematical understanding and so gain confidence in attempting more challenging questions and problems.
  • To allow students to discuss and try out problem solving strategies, to think about different ways of looking at example problems and how to approach writing solutions.
  • To provide teachers with information about the problem solving requirements of university admissions tests.
  • To provide teachers with information about sources of problems that can be used to develop problem solving skills.

Who will benefit from attending?

This course is suitable for year 12 AS and A level maths students who wish to increase their depth of understanding and further develop their problem solving skills.

Teachers will benefit by learning about the problem solving requirements of university admissions tests and the support that is available for students preparing for these.

Content

The conference consists of several workshops, some of which will give students the opportunity to solve a variety of mathematical problems. Other workshops include how to get started, how to set out solutions and how to work in a group to solve a problem.

Teachers will join their students for some of the workshops as well as attending a session that provides information about university admissions tests and where support for these can be found.

Cost

This event is free for students and teachers from state-funded schools, colleges and academies.
