The AMSP’s Maths Feast is a fun, educational challenge for Year 10 students which tests problem-solving and teamwork skills, where teams of four students test their maths skills with an all-you-can-eat feast of problems! The Feasts are running this year from February to April as face-to-face events across the country, and Live Online events in different regions so that students can compete with local schools online. There are still some face-to-face Maths Feasts taking place in the North West region that you can book on the AMSP website.
If your school cannot attend a face-to-face Maths Feast but would still like to access the 2022 Maths Feast materials, you can sign up for our DIY Maths Feast and use the materials as you wish, giving you the option to run your own Maths Feast in your school with your students! There are several rounds within our DIY Maths Feast that require different skills and strategies for success, but you have total flexibility in how you choose to deliver the materials. Each Maths Feast takes between two and three hours, so we’d recommend that you run your DIY Maths Feast over lunchtimes, after school, or within lessons. The questions are designed to be accessible but do become increasingly challenging.
For example, using the numbers 4, 2, 1 and once each, together with the repeatable operators +,- /,x ,
- Can you make all the whole numbers from 1 to 10?
- What is the smallest positive whole number which can’t be formed?
- What is the largest positive whole number which can be formed?
If you’d like to get a feel for the materials or have a wider choice of rounds to choose from, you can access Maths Feast materials from previous years on the AMSP website. The materials include full instructions and answers but, if you have any queries, please contact your local Area Coordinator for further guidance and support.
