On 4 November, 12 teachers gathered at Ecclesbourne School in Duffield for a AMSP professional development event on the theme of using Desmos in A level Mathematics. The all-day event, which was led by Tom Button, MEI’s Mathematics Technology Specialist and the Technology PD Lead for the AMSP, looked at the pedagogical potential of Desmos. The programme for the day had the following themes:
- Introduction to using Desmos (including useful teaching strategies).
- Student use of Desmos (including tasks for using the app and the classroom activities).
- Desmos for the statistics/the large data set.
- Exploring classroom activities (including adapting/creating activities for advanced users).
