Hazel Santineer, AC for Brighton & Hove, East Sussex and West Sussex

120 Year 10 students from schools across Sussex started the term with an enrichment day at Sussex University. They were a real credit to their schools with their impeccable behaviour and enthusiasm, enjoying a carousel of workshops.

Derek Cozens captured their intrigue and curiosity with Maths Magic, while Laurence O’Toole drew out the deciphering skills they didn’t know they had in Cryptography. They tested out their reasoning skills on as many problems and puzzles as they could in the Fun Maths roadshow. Jo Sibley concluded the day with a fantastic interactive session on Japanese Grid Puzzles – causing many of the students to leave with the intention of solving the P vs NP problem and winning the prize. Who knows, maybe one of them will!
