Sheila Eastwood, AC for Calderdale, Kirklees, South/East Leeds and Wakefield
On 11 July, 16 teachers from across Yorkshire and the North East attended a training day in Leeds, where Tom Button, MEI’s Technology Specialist, and Sheila Eastwood, AMSP Area Coordinator for West Yorkshire, explored ‘Proof, Problem Solving and Modelling in A level Mathematics’.
The day comprised four sessions each of which focused on one of the overarching themes – Mathematical Argument Language and Proof, Mathematical Problem Solving, and Mathematical Modelling. The day then concluded with a session on the Large Data Set. Strategies for including these elements in the classroom were considered, as well as the importance of building skills in reasoning from KS3 onwards.
