GeoGebra for A level
Sheffield – 21 November
The incredibly knowledgeable Tom Button will be in Sheffield on 21st November to support teachers in using GeoGebra to enrich and support the teaching of A level Mathematics. The course aims are:
- To improve your skills in using GeoGebra in the teaching of A level Mathematics.
- To explore activities for student use of GeoGebra.
- To develop your skills in using GeoGebra to investigate the large data set.
Statistics in AS/A level Mathematics
Bradford – 11 December
The course will look at the feedback from this summer’s GCSE Mathematics statistics questions and how you can support your students to get the most out of the Casio 991EX Classwiz for Statistics in KS4/5.
Presenter, Mark Heslop, is a maths teacher at Urmston Grammar School and a former Head of Department. He now supports schools around the country as a Maths Specialist for Edexcel. He is also the author of maths text books and delivers training for Casio UK.
We all love Mechanics!
Sheffield – 12 December
We are very fortunate to have Jeff Trim coming to Sheffield to deliver Mechanics professional development for all of those teachers who are either new to teaching Mechanics or have taught it on the older spec. It will be a full day of exploring Mechanics within the new A level with the aims of:
- To introduce the major topics within Mechanics at AS and A level Mathematics
- To strengthen teachers’ understanding of the key topics in the AS level specifications
- To demonstrate teaching ideas and resources including simple practical work and IT
- To provide a basis of understanding of Newtons Laws of Motion, forces and kinematics for teachers to build upon
It will be held at the fabulous Mercia school.
Statistics in Year 13 A level Mathematics
York – 22 January
This one day course will provide teachers of A level Mathematics with some effective ideas for teaching the main Statistics topics in Year 13 Mathematics. Topics will include:
- Conditional probability
- Using the large data set to teach statistical content
- Modelling with the Normal distribution
- Hypothesis testing
