The ‘Supporting Core Maths’ event run at The Studio in Birmingham on 4 July provided teachers with an opportunity to network and discuss with other teachers of Core Maths, and receive information about the qualification. With a focus on supporting those new to Core Maths, teachers engaged with three areas of teaching:

  • Best practice of delivering the normal distribution and other statistical topics in the Core Maths classroom – this included analysing a large data set on new born baby stats in GeoGebra
  • Reviewing 2019 examination papers from across the different examination boards – this was with an aim to make new teachers aware of the type of question they will need to get their students to engage with, and discussing the best way to do this in the classroom
  • Competing with each other for the Core Maths quiz title – this taught teachers about the qualification and helped them use the experience of their fellow attendees to prepare for next year

The first Core Maths event in the next academic year will be a Core Maths Conference on Monday 14th October at The Clayton Hotel in Birmingham.
