Another Girls In Maths day scheduled for July has, unfortunately, had to be postponed. We hope to rearrange this event for either the Autumn or Spring terms of next academic year. The days are always popular and give Year 10 pupils the opportunity to hear from women who have developed successful careers using the mathematical skills they gained through A level and degree studies.

Two women who have given fantastic presentations in the past are Katie Stocking and Rachael Davies, who are both graduates from Keele University. Katie is a Medical Statistician at the University of Manchester. She received a BSc in Mathematics from Keele University and an MSc in Medical Statistics from the University of Leicester. Her research areas span women’s health, subfertility, cancer, diabetes, respiratory health and much more. Rachael also graduated from Keele University and joined IBM on their Graduate Scheme. She experienced lots of roles as part of the scheme, however has become more specialised in the public sector industry. Since leaving the Graduate Scheme, Rachael now works for IBM in Cloud Application Innovation and Global Business Services, supporting the public sector.

Another excellent source of ideas and information to engage more girls to consider studies and careers in STEM is the Wise Campaign’s My Skills, My Life. To find out more, please visit the Wise Campaign website. We hope the next event will again offer the opportunity for pupils to complete the quiz to discover their personality type, and to see how their skills match up to STEM careers.
