In October, A level maths teachers from across the South West came together for a conference on problem solving in A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics. The choice of sessions meant there was something for everyone – from problem solving with the large data set to problem solving and proof, or problem solving in university admissions tests.

One of the interesting comments in the feedback was that, as well as the importance of the content in the sessions, it was valuable to have the opportunity to meet and network with other A level maths teachers, enabling the sharing of ideas which had been used successfully in school.

With a fascinating plenary to close the day from Rob Eastaway, this was a very well received event.

Any teachers who missed out on this event but are interested in problem solving PD may wish to attend an upcoming event in Bath – Problem solving in mathematics admissions tests: Supporting students through the MAT, TMUA and STEP examinations.
