Nine schools across Dorset and South Wiltshire came together at Bournemouth University to celebrate the role of women in STEM and do some maths! Year 10 girls from across the region particularly enjoyed learning about discrete mathematics through making bubbles with the AMSP’s very own Avril Steele and discovering the importance of engineering in our society with Nicola Bagshawe from Hoare Lea.

Other guest speakers included Naomi Crossland from Poole Hospital, who taught us the importance of accuracy through measuring radiation for each individual following treatment; such an important real-life application of log scales and relevant for both A level and Core Maths. The teachers who attended were also incredibly positive, highlighted by this quote on Twitter:

“It far exceeded my expectations in every way and the students got a huge amount from it – there was something for everyone.”

Due to popular demand, we hope to run a similar event in July 2020; details to follow soon.
