Have you ever taken your students to a Maths Inspiration Show?

If you haven’t then you’ve missed a treat! This year Rob Eastaway and his team put together shows aimed at students in Year 9 and 10 and travelled around the country to show audiences the maths behind games. In Portsmouth, he was accompanied by the brilliant Katie Steckles and Andrew Jeffrey. The show was really interactive with lots of student participation on stage, playing games with the presenters. In the “Nice or Nasty” game, some students came out better off than when they entered the theatre. The activity is based on Game Theory, so students learnt that this is used by mathematicians when trying to anticipate wars or economy/trading changes.

There was a lot of excitement when the audience were shown the real chances of winning the lottery through an audience lottery – though there was a shared jackpot on this occasion. The show was brilliant fun and engaging. If you haven’t taken students before, look out for the dates for the next academic year and come along!
