This half-term it has been amazing to see so many students from Years 12 and 13 attending our brand new course focusing on preparations for the MAT and TMUA exams, as well as practising for events run by the UKMT such as the Senior Team Mathematical Challenge. At the last count we had a total of 30 students attending this weekly event at Newcastle University, demonstrating and developing their problem solving skills and working collaboratively with students from other schools. For myself it has been very rewarding to see so many enthusiastic young mathematicians returning each week and I never cease to be impressed by their mathematical understanding, inquisitiveness and ingenuity.

This latest course adds to the suite of courses and one-off events organised in the North East by the AMSP aimed at promoting and developing problem-solving skills across a wide range of year groups. These include other events for sixth formers, such as the STEP course that begins in January and the half-termly Problem Solving mornings that have been well attended over the past number of years. We also run events for younger students, including the annual Maths Feast for year 10s and the brand new Maths Picnic for years 8 and 9.

For further details of these courses and events visit our events listing or contact your local AMSP Area Coordinator!
