On Friday 30 November, 68 Year 8 students and their teachers came to Trinity School for an afternoon of fun and inspiring mathematics. They started with a hands-on and interactive workshop of magic tricks, all of which contained mathematical or scientific content. They practised a variety of tricks, including how to tie a ring to a chain by simply dropping the ring, and how to tie a knot in a rope with one flick.

Students then worked in teams of four with students from other schools to complete a Dragon Quiz, a team relay contest where teams compete to answer as many questions as possible in the time allowed.

Feedback from the event was extremely positive, with both teachers and students commenting how much fun they found the tricks and how valuable the experience of working with students from other schools was. The event will be repeated in the Spring term, so do keep an eye on our  events page!
