Angus supports teachers and students in the Barnet, Enfield, Haringey, Harrow and Waltham Forest areas of London and the South East.
As the new Area Coordinator for the north London boroughs of Waltham Forest, Haringey, Enfield, Barnet and Harrow, I will be the first point of call for all schools in the area for any queries about the provision of Level 3 Maths.
I will be working closely alongside the five other Area Coordinators in London and the South East to provide high quality, relevant CPD and enrichment events. This depends on a dialogue with schools, so I really encourage teachers to get in touch with suggestions and questions about what would make their lives easier, their students’ experience richer, and our joint mathematical mission more effective.
I have spent 20 years teaching maths and Further Mathematics (and Philosophy) across all age groups in secondary schools, most recently in South London, so I know the time pressures and the reactiveness of life in the classroom. I have lived in frustration at the gap that so often occurs between our wish-lists and their enactment. I hope to help your plans become realised!
I am particularly motivated by the prospects of supporting the delivery of Core Maths qualifications in school and colleges. The various courses that deliver this qualification offer an amazing opportunity to engage and exhilarate the 70% of sixth formers who are not studying A Level Maths. The course attracts zeal and creativity from all corners of the teaching profession, but it clearly requires strategic effort to initiate and run effectively in schools – something I hope to assist with.
