On 21st June, a group of A level teachers gathered at UCL Institute of Education to explore two of the key topics to Further Mathematics specifications – Linear Programming and Critical Path Analysis. They started by exploring the graphical approach to solving Linear Programming problems before moving onto the Simplex algorithm, including two-stage Simplex and big-M methods. After lunch, they explored Critical Path Analysis, beginning by creating precedence tables and activity networks, and then using these to calculate early and late start and finish times, critical activities and floats. They also constructed Gantt (cascade) charts and resource histograms.

The teachers particularly enjoyed the day and found it very useful, commenting that it was very helpful to explore the most challenging aspects of the decision curriculum. Find more events to support Further Mathematics via our events listing.
