Lily supports teachers and students in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough

I would like to thank everyone who has warmly welcomed me into this role as the Area Coordinator within the East of England region. I feel privileged to work and provide support for teachers and students who are embarking on a variety of post-16 Level 3 maths pathways, from Core Maths to university admissions tests, AS/A level Mathematics to Further Mathematics.

My aims for the upcoming months are:

  • to encourage schools to strengthen their level 3 pathways. This can be achieved by encouraging KS3 and KS4 students to think about post-16 maths options, and to engage with girls to increase their level of participation with post-16 maths
  • to ensure that those in sixth form who would benefit from higher level problem solving workshops are able to access one near to them
  • to ensure that schools are thinking of starting Core Maths, or maintaining the numbers if they have already started the delivery

Having previously been a Core Maths Lead under Core Maths Support Programme (CMSP), I have worked with Cambridgeshire schools before, and am glad to be continuing the brilliant work that Kristin Coldwell has done in the previous years. My passion for Core Maths started when I first taught it in 2014; it is a qualification that opens doors for those who enjoy maths at GCSE level, but do not think A level Mathematics is something for them. Core Maths has given an option to those who would benefit from continuing with maths alongside their other subjects. I much enjoy the problem solving and the application of maths aspect of the course and see great potential of that for many students.

I have just joined an 11-18 school where I teach two days a week. I have previously worked in a sixth form college in Surrey and a Further Education college in Cambridgeshire. I hope these experiences will be useful when working with different schools in the area. I look forward to hearing from you – please do not hesitate to drop me an email.
