Regional finals of the Senior Team Maths Challenge (STMC) have taken place all over the East of England and the rest of the country. The competition is jointly organised by the UKMT and the AMSP, promoting teamwork and problem-solving skills. Teams consisting of students from Years 11, 12 and 13 worked through rounds of questions including a Group Round, a Cross Number and a fast-paced Shuttle Round. It has been particularly enjoyable to see year 11 students taking part in the competition with the older, more experienced, students supporting them. Teachers supporting the teams had nothing but praise for the maturity and resilience of the students.

We are especially grateful to the host schools and venues in the East of England:

  • Longdean School in Hemel Hempstead
  • Redborne Upper School in Bedford
  • Arthur Mellows Village College in Peterborough
  • the Centre for Mathematical Sciences in Cambridge
  • Merchant Taylor’s School in Middlesex
  • Billericay School in Essex
  • Northgate High School in Ipswich
  • City of Norwich School.

There were some extremely close finishes with the lead changing hands in the final stages. Some students did exceptionally well in holding their nerve in the stress of the shuttle round. Winners from these regional finals have been invited to compete in the national final of the competition in London in February:

  • Bedford School
  • Kimbolton School
  • Hills Road Sixth Form College
  • Parmiter’s School
  • Haberdashers’ Aske’s School for Boys
  • King Edward VI Grammar School
  • Colchester Sixth Form College
  • INTO UEA

Some high scoring runners up will also be invited to the national final once all of the regional finals have concluded.

Interested in AMSP enrichment? Bookings are now open for our team competition for Year 10 students, Maths Feast. Places can be reserved today.
