Teachers who want to increase their confidence with fundamental Higher Tier maths topics may be interested in our new GCSE Professional development courses, Discover GCSE Maths.

This exciting suite of one-day courses is designed to enhance subject knowledge in a fundamental 11-16 maths topic, starting with Key Stage 4 and then exploring how this topic is expanded upon for KS5 maths qualifications. Courses also prepare teachers for using classroom resources and powerful visual representations with their students.

The set of courses have been created with a focus on nurturing a deep understanding in core mathematical areas. By building a strong foundation of personal subject knowledge, teachers can then access more of the AMSP and MEI’s professional development, such as our Raising Confidence courses.

Discover GCSE Maths courses are suitable for any teacher who wishes to become more confident with the following titles:

  • Discover Trigonometry – a one-day course focusing on improving subject knowledge in trigonometry
  • Discover Quadratics – a one-day course focusing on improving subject knowledge in quadratics

More titles are being developed for the future.

These courses are funded by the DfE and are offered free of charge to teachers working in state-funded schools, colleges and academies. In addition, participants’ schools will be eligible to claim £100 per teacher for each day to enable attendance. Schools in AMSP Priority Areas will be able to claim £250 for each day. Please visit the subsidies page for more information.

Initial pilot courses will take place in London in January 2019. Teachers wanting to apply for a place on either course can submit an online application.
