It is great that so many young people are continuing to study A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics and an increasing number are gaining Core Maths qualifications.

Following changes to the curriculum at GCSE and A level over the last few years and the recent post-16 funding changes it was anticipated that entries for A levels would be affected, so it is reassuring that the number of entries were down only slightly since 2018. Mathematics is still be most popular subject at A level and Core Maths entries increased by 32%. Students, and their parents, recognise the importance of mathematics in preparing for further study and future careers.

The AMSP continues to work with schools and colleges to support the teaching of A level Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Core Maths. We aim to ensure that all students have the opportunity to study mathematics post-16 and fulfill their potential.

MEI has published a media release with more details of the results.
