It is my pleasure to have been appointed to the role of Area Coordinator for South Yorkshire, taking over from my colleague Simon Dawson. I am looking forward to working with both teachers and pupils across the region, helping to build expertise and to provide enrichment, inspiration and a love of maths.

After completing a PhD in Pure Mathematics, I decided to enter the teaching profession. I have been a teacher in 11-18 schools for ten years and continue to work in a very successful maths department. I therefore feel I am well placed to understand and assist with current issues faced by the maths teaching community. I have a lot of experience in assisting pupils in preparing for university entrance exams such as STEP, MAT and TMUA, and I love writing challenging problem-solving questions for pupils (and teachers) to solve.

It is a strange time to be taking over with the current school and college closures, however Simon and I have worked together for the last five years at King Ecgbert School, and so are well placed to make the handover as smooth as possible. Over the next few months, we will be collaborating to ensure that the level of support in the region remains high, especially given the challenging times. I will be using this time to not only learn the role, but also to fill any gaps in my own knowledge so I am ready to fly solo as soon as possible!

I am really looking forward to getting stuck into the role. I welcome any questions or enquiries, and look forward to meeting you and your students in the future.
