On Friday 8 October 2021, Alison Terry, Cath Moore and I ran an enrichment event at St Edmund’s Catholic School in Portsmouth. It was our first face-to-face event since the pandemic struck and we were all looking forward to it, as were the students and teachers at the school.

The focus of this event was to inspire able students in Year 11 to think about their options post-16. The event consisted of two sessions. Alison Terry delivered a very interesting talk on bridge construction and the engineering required to ensure the bridges were roadworthy for a sustainable amount of time. Cath Moore’s session explored career options which involved the use of maths and its applications.

Both sessions were received really well, and both of our speakers were impressed by the students’ enthusiasm and interaction with the activities. Teachers at the school were delighted with the outcome and we look forward to continuing and growing our involvement with St Edmund’s Catholic School in the future.

We’re hoping to be able to continue to offer face-to-face student enrichment events in the current situation – please ensure that you’re subscribed to receive our latest news to get the latest information from your local Area Coordinator on these events. We also offer a variety of online enrichment events to help inspire your students.
